FOR MORE INFORMATION It’s festive, it’s art, and it’s free! Festival in the Park, Charlotte’s mirror on the rich regional arts scene, returns to Freedom Park September 20 through 23 for its 43rd run. The nationally recognized four-day festival features a rainbow of music, performance art and visual arts native to the Southeast. You’ll stroll among colorful Camelot tents pitched around the lake to sample fabulously diverse arts and crafts, food and interactive children’s activities as the area’s top musicians maintain a continuous soundtrack. The sights, sounds and smells you’ll experience in this relaxed atmosphere will create lasting memories! Unlike many festivals, Festival in the Park installs a lighting system allowing events to continue into the night. Children will love the ongoing shows at the Carolina Clowns Stage and the Magicians Stage, and special Kids Day activities are designed to make learning fun. Main Stage entertainment will offer not only a sampling of the region’s top bands, but also a variety of world music, including Latin rock, Andean highland music, Chinese dance and much more. The Charlotte Folk Society Stage will present old-time, bluegrass, Celtic, singer/songwriters, drumming groups, storytellers and contemporary folk. This year’s Main Stage offerings spotlight Doug Burns Band on Thursday night, cranking out swing and big band sound; Friday is Latin Night, featuring Peralta and Eva Sina (formerly LaRue). The Saturday menu includes such top regional names as the Spongetones (pop-rock), Wink Keziah (Americana) and Crisis (pop-rock). The Catalinas cap it off Sunday with old time favorite beach oldies. Festival in the Park runs September 20 through 23; beginning Thursday evening 6 - 10 p.m., noon - 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard in Charlotte. Admission is free, and each performance is guaranteed family-friendly. Named one of the nation’s top 200 festivals by the Sunshine Artists Magazine, the Festival has an outdoor open-air amphitheater unrivaled in the area. |
