FESTIVAL IN THE PARK HOSTS FIRST YOUTH TALENT SHOW

Inaugural event will showcase performances by local children and teenagers

Charlotte, NC – Festival in the Park will host its first youth talent show September 18 – 21, 2008 in Freedom Park. The show will allow local children and teenagers to demonstrate talents such as music, dance, juggling, comedy, drama, martial artists, puppetry, gymnastics, storytelling and more. Festival in the Park has been a Charlotte tradition since 1964. An estimated 100,000 visitors attended last year. The event has been named one of the 200 Best Festivals by Sunshine Artist magazine.

Charlotte area youth 5 to 18-years-old must apply for the talent show by September 1, 2008. No entry fee is required. Applications are available at www.festivalinthepark.org. Applicants residing within the Charlotte region will be considered.

Festival organizers are committed to providing a fun and non-competitive forum for the encouragement, development and discovery of young, amateur entertainers. Performances must be original and authentic, and all talents are encouraged. “We are excited about kicking off this event and giving kids and teens the chance to perform in front of a large crowd,” said Anne Irwin Ward, Festival in the Park Board Member and event organizer.

“We created the Kids’ Stage to offer a venue for our school-age youth to perform and showcase their talent. For years the Festival has offered space to local students so they can display their visual art talents, so it is only a natural for us to provide this venue to showcase their other artistic abilities. Many children work hard honing their music and dance skills. A great way to reward these talented youth is to offer a stage for their friends and neighbors to share in their efforts,” said David Dalton, Festival in the Park Board Chair.
